Join us for a fright-filled afternoon as three Southern Californian writers of Mexican descent: Daniel A. Olivas (Chicano Frankenstein), Natalie Sierra (Beyond the Grace of God) and David A. Romero (The Enemy Sleeps) discuss how they blend the iconography and tropes of horror with the genres of science fiction, romance and mystery to craft unique and compelling novels! Readings followed by Q&A.
Daniel A. Olivas, the grandson of Mexican immigrants, is a fiction writer, poet, playwright, book critic, and attorney. He is the author of 13 books and editor of two anthologies. Daniel's books include Waiting for Godínez: A Tragicomedy in Two Acts (University of New Mexico Press, 2025), My Chicano Heart: New and Collected Stories of Love and Other Transgressions (University of Nevada Press, 2024), Chicano Frankenstein: A Novel (Forest Avenue Press, 2024), Crossing the Border: Collected Poems (Pact Press, 2017), and Things We Do Not Talk About: Exploring Latino/a Literature through Essays and Interviews (San Diego State University Press, 2014).
Natalie Sierra (she/they) is the third poet laureate of Pomona, California. She is a poet, author, and editor. Natalie is the president of Café Con Libros Press, a nonprofit bookstore in downtown Pomona.
David A. Romero is a Mexican-American poet, novelist, and publisher from Diamond Bar, CA. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of El Martillo Press. Romero is the author of the novel The Enemy Sleeps (El Martillo Press, 2026) and the books of poetry My Name Is Romero (FlowerSong Press, 2020) and Diamond Bars 2 (Moon Tide Press, 2024).
